Class Description
Tote bags usually consist of simple shapes and are quick to sew. They make an excellent project even for people with basic sewing skills. Ideally you would have already attended our "Sew simple" or "LayOnMe" cushion class or have some previous experience using a sewing machine. You’ll be thrilled to enjoy one of these roomy, well-designed lined bags, with an internal pocket. You will also get the chance to customise the size of your bag. The areas we cover in this class include:
- - Cutting a fabric and lining
- - Sewing straight lines and corners
- - Finishing seams and reverse stitching
- - Machine hemming
- - Creating pockets and straps
- - Fabrics, grain lines and seam allowances
- - Decorative stitching (optional)
- - Adding an appliqué (optional)
What do I need to bring?
If you plan to use a fabric of your own choice you will need to bring along the following:
- Bag fabric
- - 50cm of 115cm or 140cm wide woven cotton (non stretchy)
- - 50cm of matching fabric for the lining
Alternatively, you can buy the fabric from us for £9 (available when booking the class).
Just to sew things up...
All sewing machines, and equipment are provided. Refreshments and biscuits are included and a glass of wine for all evening classes to help create a seamless atmosphere.
